Install and Configure Fail2ban

Watches the auth log and temporarily bans addresses that keep failing to log in.

The final status line is the one to read: it names the jail, how many attempts it has seen and which addresses are currently banned. An empty jail list means it is running but watching nothing.

When you need this: On any server reachable from the internet, as a layer behind key-only SSH rather than instead of it.
